How Zalgo Text Works

Unicode combining marks attach to the character before them. Latin letters sit on the baseline; marks from the Combining Diacritical Marks block can stack above that line, cut through it, or hang below it. Zalgo is that stacking used as a glitch effect rather than as a real accent. This page does not remap a to a fancy glyph the way math bold does. It keeps your letters and adds marks. Up, Middle, and Down pick which side of the baseline gets the noise.

When to Use Glitch and Cursed Text

Zalgo fits Discord nicknames, meme captions, horror aesthetic posts, ARG clues, and cyberpunk bios. It is a joke or a mood, not a document style. Skip it for resumes, product names, searchable usernames, and anything a screen reader or a search box needs to understand. If you actually wanted fancy letters rather than cursed ones, use bold script. To cross out a word instead of corrupting it, use strikethrough.

Intensity, Discord Limits, and Paste Tips

Each combining mark counts as a character. A six-letter name at max intensity is already far past the Discord 32-character nickname cap, so the app will truncate it or refuse the paste. Bios and messages have more room, but very dense zalgo still looks broken on some phones. Copy a short line, paste it where you need it, and turn the slider down if the destination clips the text.
